Copy of Become a Member
Becoming a member of the Phoenix Food Co-op is an exciting way to participate in your local food system. Members own the Co-op: this means that they are given certain rights and benefits as long as they are in good standing.
Some of the Co-op benefits include:
- Voting on Co-op decisions. Members vote on important Co-op decisions, such as who sits on our board of directors. They may also vote on bylaw changes, and are given opportunities for input on the store they own.
- Patronage dividends. Members are also given a portion of the Co-op's profits, if and when the Co-op makes a profit, and after the Co-op has set aside a reserve. These dividends depend on the amount of purchases an individual has made in the given year.
- Other member-only discounts. While we are still in the early stages of development, we look forward to working with our members to identify other member benefits!
Memberships cost $100, and are a one-time payment. You can pay all at once, or set up a payment plan. If you feel you are unable to afford a membership, you can also apply through the solidarity fund, and receive a membership at a discounted price of $10. Please contact us if you are in need of a discounted membership option.
If you would like to support the solidarity fund, you can make that donation here.
By purchasing a membership share, you are indicating that you have read and agree to the Bylaws.
The Co-op is in the planning stages of opening a customer-owned grocery store. The Co-op is currently making sales online for pickup, but does not yet have a retail location. We plan to do a capital campaign to raise the funds needed to open a grocery store, and memberships are the first step. For details, please see our About Us page.
The Co-op will return your $100 to you if you leave the Co-op, but this is dependent on the discretion of the board and availability of funds. Launching a start-up grocery store is risky, and you could lose your membership fee if the Co-op is not able to launch a profitable retail location.
If you have questions about becoming a member, we invite you to email us at hello@phxfood.coop.
If you have trouble checking out when you buy the membership, please try using a different device or browser first, and contact our team here if your problem persists.
